Summary
This is the submodule operator manual you wish you had when you were three levels deep in detached HEAD confusion. It forces you to pick one mode (add and pin, bootstrap, sync to recorded commit, advance a tracked branch, edit inside without losing work, remove cleanly, or configure CI) and gives you the exact command packet for that mode.
