This generates speculative fiction stories by collapsing the comfortable distances that let us ignore systemic harm. Pick a distance type (temporal, spatial, social, causal, or informational), design how it normally keeps consequences hidden, then create the event that reveals the true proximity. You get four engine patterns like Exchange (every benefit costs someone distant) or Inheritance (you're stuck with what your proximity ancestors did). It walks you through the revelation arc where your protagonist discovers they were already complicit all along. Honestly brutal for exploring privilege and exported consequences because it structurally prevents your characters from claiming innocence or just walking away from the systems they benefit from.
