The skill focuses on what documenters cannot afford to see rather than temporal distance. It walks through choosing perspectives based on professional deformation or positional necessity, then calibrating how obliquely the quote connects to your chapter events. Aim for second-order distance where readers make the inference themselves. Works best when you want epigraphs that add irony or reveal systemic blindness rather than just atmospheric flavor.
