You activate it when you need to compare technologies, evaluate architectures, or produce documented technical analysis. It walks through topic discovery with clarifying questions, then routes you into research steps that generate markdown reports with proper sourcing. The workflow loads customizations from TOML files and respects project-level config for language and output directories. Honestly, it's pretty procedural, maybe overkill for quick comparisons, but if you're producing formal research docs or need repeatable methodology with a partner or team, the structure keeps things consistent.
