Wraps FFmpeg's command-line interface to expose common media operations through MCP tools. You'll reach for this when you need to process video or audio files directly from Claude conversations without leaving your chat interface. The server requires FFmpeg installed locally and connects via stdio, letting you handle tasks like format conversion, compression, trimming, and basic editing operations. Useful for workflows where you're discussing media files with Claude and want immediate processing capabilities rather than switching to separate video editing tools.
A stdio MCP server to interact with ffmpeg for common media operations.
This project is sponsored by ChatWise - All-in-one LLM Chatbot with MCP support.
You need ffmpeg installed on your system first.
Then add the following command to your MCP client:
npx -y ffmpeg-mcp
By default it uses ffmpeg from your system path. You can also specify the path to ffmpeg by setting the FFMPEG_PATH environment variable, like:
FFMPEG_PATH=/path/to/ffmpeg
